Part 2

The people in the magic town were busy working, well most of them. The town was full of apprentices doing work for their teacher. Most of the people running around were males. The females were in the gardens learning from their teachers whom were also female. The boys rarely spoke to the girls, because they were told they were only distractions and powerless. One boy was not paying attention to his work. He had on a torn shirt and patched up pants, and had brown hair and yellow-green eyes. His face had dirt on it. He was often mistaken for a sixteen-year-old, a Segan, although he is really fourteen, an apprentice. He was sitting on the garden wall secretly making the flowers wilt right before the teacher checked them. The girls were astonished and often tried to bring it back to life. As the flower tried to come back to life the boy cast a stronger spell making the flowers turn into a man-eating flowers.
“Melvin Stragatini! Get off that wall!” a voice from behind the boy yelled.
The boy got startled and fell forward into some fertilizer.
“Kai! You messed up my prank,” Melvin said while spitting some fertilizer out of his mouth.
Kai stepped through the wall and stood in front of Melvin. Kai was around the age of thirty and looked pretty strict. His cloths were green robes and he didn’t have any patience for this boy. He had been Melvin’s teacher for a few months and has taught him a lot of things, but Melvin always ended up losing focus and doing something to bug everyone.
“Serves you right boy, you know you were supposed to deliver the gift to Chaman thirty minutes ago. Have you delivered it?” Kai asked.
“Of course I did,” Melvin said as he stood up and wiped the fertilizer off his pants.
The chaos of the man-eating plant calmed down, because a man who appeared from nowhere turned the creature into stone. “Where have you been Von?” Kai questioned the man.
Von took off his hat and said, “I had to do some work on the outside.”
Kai looked puzzled for a second and then turned around and walked through the wall “Come on Melvin, you have a few more jobs to do before we go to the meeting.”
Melvin jumped over the wall and ran after Kai.

During the next two hours Melvin was punished for not coming back after delivering the gift. He was to work without magic, by scrubbing the town circle, putting up decorations and cooking the main course for the party that night.
“I thought we didn’t celebrate anything during this month,” Melvin mumbled as he scrubbed a pan.
“We usually don’t, but today’s an exception. The anniversary of magic town,” Kai replied after hearing Melvin’s remark.
“I thought the town was discovered in May not December?” Melvin asked.
“That’s a lie. Now that your in the apprentice level you can know the real reason,” Kai said.
“What about the home holidays?” Melvin questioned Kai.
“Just so parents can celebrate if they miss it, because of their children,” Kai sighed.
Melvin was about to ask another question, but remembered Kai didn’t answer more then three questions when he’s not teaching Melvin.
At the human town

Dani turned off the water and noticed it was strangely quite outside. She looked out the window and saw nobody playing, shopping or even talking.
“Strange,” Dani said and she grabbed the phone and called her mother.
When no one answered the phone Dani became confused, her mother always had her phone. She decided to go see her neighbor and best friend Ariel.
Dani knocked on the door, when there was no answer she took out her key for Ariel’s house and unlocked the door. She stepped into the living room, where only the television was on. Dani went upstairs into Ariel’s room. She walked in and saw Ariel sitting on her bed with her mouth open. She was solid stone.
Dani took a step back in surprise and looked at Ariel’s television. The news was on and the town, full of people, were frozen in stone were standing there, but next to the solidified mayor was a strange purple vortex, like in fantasy movies.
Dani quickly grabbed her bike from outside her house and went towards the town square.

At the magic town
Melvin ran towards the town square. He had fallen asleep at the river and the party had started ten minutes before he awoke.
“Great, I wonder what my punishment will be for not being there,” Melvin thought out loud.
* * *
Kai sighed, “That boy’s going to get me fired if he doesn’t get here before the mayor does.
People were appearing all over the town circle and they were soon seated and waiting for the mayor to speak. Kai rolled his eyes and sat down. Von appeared and sat next to Kai.
“I see your apprentice isn’t here, must be bugging the girls again. I’m glad I got Jeffrey for a student, he finished his term a long time ago and now works with Creature Control,” Von said.
Before Kai could say anything the mayor a tall skinny man with a really curly mustache appeared and said:
“Thank you for joining us in our town celebration today! At six our town will be officially one year older! We have our new apprentices and Von is going to say something he wants you all to know. Okay Von take it away.”
Von walked up to the center of the town circle and took the microphone.
“Thank you mayor. I’m going to begin right away. Today I was on the outside and I learned a few things. We use magic for things we could do without it, and for that reason I’m taking it away.”
Von took a red stone out of his robe and squeezed it a red barrier went around the town circle and the people inside started shaking and yelling in pain.
Melvin just came to the town circle, but he stopped when he saw the red barrier. Kai dragged himself towards him and said “Melvin get out of here, he’s taking our magic!”
Melvin not hearing him stepped into the barrier to get closer and hear him better. The second he stepped in a sear of pain went over him, he felt like something he had for a long part of his life was leaving and he’d never see it again. Kai pushed Melvin out of the barrier. Soon the barrier disappeared. Everyone in town had lost their magic, except Von and Melvin.

In the human town

Dani jumped off her bike and saw some man standing in front of the vortex. Dani frowned and knew the man was responsible. She ran and tackled the man and they flew into the portal.
